There are several travel agents and airlines you can call to book tickets to India. The smart way to shop for tickets is to call several travel agents and find the best deals. Look in the yellow pages directory and call them for a quotes. Most of the times it comes out to be cheaper to buy a ticket from a travel agent than buying it directly from the airline. Although, sometimes it works the other way round. Look for special deals on the airline website if they have any. For ex: Every week Delta announces some special weekend fare or fan fare. Be on a look out for such deals.

If you are travelling with a child to India, dont forget to ask for bulkhead seats and put a request for a basinet. These are the seats with an option of putting a bassinet in front of the seat, so that an infant can sleep peacefully in the bassinet.

Copy of recent income tax returns.
An application/letter from you to the US consulate in India (address it to the particular consulate e.g. Delhi), requesting for issuing a visitor visa to the concerned person, stating that you will be taking care of every needful for these people, including tickets, boarding and other expenses in USA.
A formal invitation letter addressed to the person (person's) you are inviting to US. Also stating that you will be taking care of all their needs while in US, including tickets, boarding and other expenses in USA.
