As a part of the application process, most American colleges and universities require scores from one of the U.S. standardized admissions tests. However, some colleges and universities do not require international applicants to take admissions tests, and some schools do not ask for admissions test scores from any applicant.

Test Taking Tips & Strategies

  1. Practice is the Key: Even if you can remember all the test solving techniques and strategies, you will still need to practice. There is no way of getting around this fact.

  2. Become familiar: Being familiar with the question types will help you save the time you would have to otherwise spend reading the directions. In addition, if you are familiar, you will feel more confident and prepared when you take the test.

  3. Get familiar with Keyboard and Computer: GMAT, GRE, TOEFL are computerized  It is very important to get comfortable with computer and typing since time plays a major role in these tests. If you keep searching letters on the keyboard, it may get difficult for you to complete essays. So, its time for you to familiarize yourself with computer screen, keyboard and mouse!

  4. Keep track of the time: Each GMAT test section has a limited time. Keep reminding yourself how much time you have; it will help you better allocate time for each of the different types of questions.

  5. Take online tests: Besides studying and practicing from books, taking online tests is the best strategy. There are many sites online which provide tests. That way you will have a rough idea about how it is to give test on the computer.
Stay calm and be careful: Read carefully and be sure to consider all the choices for each question. Don't lose your points through careless mistakes. Staying calm is the very important factor. If you are not, you may commit mistakes which you hardly did during practicing. Don't panic!

GRE [top]

GRE scores, along with transcripts and recommendations, form the core admissions criteria for an overwhelming percentage of U.S. graduate schools. Thus, if you are trying to get admission for Engineering, prepare yourself to give the GRE too!!

GRE is "General Record Examination". The GRE general test measures verbal, quantitative, and analytical abilities. Each subject test covers one academic area in depth. The writing assessment is a two-part test that evaluates writing and critical thinking skills. This computer-based test is an adaptive one; it matches its questions to your skill level. The test begins with questions of average difficulty. If you get the first one right, it will send up a harder one. If you miss it, it'll pitch an easier question. A note of warning: the early questions are heavily weighted. Take your time at the beginning to earn a better score.
